Prime Air in Italy: Amazon changes the game with drones by 2024
Amazon has announced ambitious plans to introduce drone deliveries in Italy by the end of 2024. This innovative initiative is part of the Prime Air project, unveiled during the "Delivering the Future" event in Seattle. The Mk30 drone, a vertical takeoff and landing aircraft designed by Amazon, will be crucial to expanding the service beyond North America. The Mk27 drones, already in operation in certain areas of California and Texas, will be used to deliver packages approximately the size of a shoebox, with a maximum weight of 2.3 kilograms.
Amazon's goal is to offer one-hour delivery for thousands of products sold through its e-commerce site in select areas of Italy by December 2024. However, before fully implementing this service, approval from the Federal Aviation Administration for drone flights will be required. This ambitious project aims to revolutionize the goods delivery process, making it faster and reducing traffic on the roads.
Amazon plans to serve both apartment complexes and individual houses with gardens, focusing delivery efforts in the suburbs of major cities. Delivery methods include the direct release of packages by drones from a height of four meters or the establishment of small collection hubs. This initiative represents a significant step toward the evolution of the e-commerce sector, redefining how customers receive their purchases in an efficient and innovative manner.
